What to do?

I still have over twenty query letters out there, and wonder what I should be doing now.  I'm still waiting to hear from the one agent who has a partial submission.  Querying agents is not for the impatient or the faint of heart.

I've never taken rejection well, but this process is surprising me.  For once in my life, I'm not taking the rejections personally.  It's not me they don't like, and not necessarily my novel.  It's just that my novel doesn't ignite a fire in the agent, and that's OK.

That being said, should I query some more?  Which query do I use?  Do I use my original query, or the new-fangled query tracker one?  I think I'll wait a couple of days, then send out a few more.  Then I'll wait some more.  Hey, I'm getting good at it.

  1. ugh, the waiting is killer. I've always considered myself a patient person. I mean, i've waited 6 months on short story submissions, so what's a little query waiting? But it turns out it's so much worse. And then throw in some requests, mixed in with the queries and i become like a bowl of anxiety and impatience.
I sent out 2 more queries today just for something to do!

  2. LOL, I'm totally with you. I've had to back away from QueryTracker, because I'm always finding myself looking for new agents to query. Right now, I've got a partial out with my favorite agent (met him at a conference, and we really clicked), so that makes it even more difficult!

  3. i'm limiting myself to no more than 10 queries out at a time (this doesn't count any fulls i have out). It seems to be working well on keeping me in control
